Meet The Candidate, Lori I. Hamilton
I have lived in Davie County since 1988, and I have been a conservative Republican since the memory of man runneth not to the contrary.
I have three grown children. My son, Ryan, is a noncomissioned officer serving in the United States Army and is a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. My daughter, Sara, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has a career working with children who are disabled. My youngest son, James, is an aspiring artist.
I have been practicing law in Judicial District 22B (Davie and Davidson Counties) since my admission to the bar in 1991, and I have offices in Mocksville and Lexington. I was encouraged by members of the District Bar to run for this superior Court Judgeship because I have devoted my professional career to the fair and just application of the law to people from all walks of life. I am uniquely qualified to be a Superior Court Judge as I am the only candidate with nearly twenty-five years of superior court trial experience, including capital murder trials, major felony trials, an extensive motions practice, and sentencing hearings in both state and federal courts. I am also the only candidate who has been a court-certified arbitrator in Davie County for more than fifteen years. This quasi-judicial position has allowed me to decide dozens of private civil disputes appealed from the Magistrate’s Court.
I strongly believe in the United States Constitution and its Bill of Rights. The law of the land should apply equally to every person, and good judge ensures justice for all. A conservative approach to justice requires no less.
Davie County has been without a resident Superior Court Judge since the retirement of Hon. Lester P. Martin in January, 1995. Once elected, I will serve the entire District and Division, but in being a resident Judge, I will be easily accessible to Davie County Attorneys, Davie County Law Enforcement Officers, Davie County Clerks, and others in my home county who have business before the court.
I am a lifelong resident of North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Psychology, with a concentration in the study of Criminal Justice. I earned my juris doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1991. Since that time I have been admitted to practice in all North Carolina state trial courts, in the Federal Middle District of North Carolina, and in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
I currently serve on the North Carolina State Bar Ethics Panel conducting interviews of State Bar Exam candidates applying each year from the 22nd Judicial District. Over the course of my career, I have also served on the boards of a number of civic and charitable organizations, including Piedmont Mediation, CareNet, The Advocacy Center, and the Davie County Arts Council.
Davie and Davidson Counties merit a qualified, conservative Superior Court Judge committed to the promotion and defense of a fair system of justice. I am committed to being that Judge.
